Internet speed test online — download, upload and latency

Estimate download, upload and latency with a light browser HTTP test.

Light speed estimate

Download, upload and latency via HTTP samples to a nearby Cloudflare edge. Not a multi-server lab test.

Browser HTTP estimate only — single edge path, modest payloads, not designed to saturate your link. Results can differ from Ookla, Fast.com or ISP apps. Wi-Fi, VPN, CPU load and browser tabs all affect numbers.

Solutions that can help in your case

How this light speed test works

Your browser runs short HTTP samples against Cloudflare’s public speed endpoints: small payloads for latency, then modest download and upload transfers. We convert bytes and elapsed time into Mbps estimates and show honest gaps when a sample fails.

This is not Ookla, M-Lab, or your ISP’s official app. We do not saturate the link or probe many servers worldwide. Treat numbers as a quick network health check.

How to use it

  1. Open the tool: Load the page on a stable connection.

  2. Start the test: Click Start and wait through latency, download, and upload.

  3. Read the cards: Compare Mbps and latency classes with your expectations.

  4. Retest if needed: Change network or VPN state and run again.

Is your internet feeling slow?

Streaming buffers, lag in calls, and “is it my Wi-Fi or the ISP?” moments all need a quick throughput and latency check.

Run the test on Wi-Fi and, if you can, on a cable. Compare with VPN on/off. For gaming ping, use the dedicated multi-region ping tool.

Practical tips

  • Close heavy downloads and video tabs before testing.
  • Prefer Ethernet over congested Wi-Fi when diagnosing ISP claims.
  • VPN and corporate proxies often lower measured Mbps.
  • Mobile hotspots vary by tower load — retest later.
  • Latency here is HTTP to one edge, not game UDP RTT.
  • Very high download with high latency can still feel “laggy”.
  • If all metrics fail, check ad-blockers or network policies.
  • For contract disputes, use multi-server certified tests your ISP accepts.

What we measure

Download Mbps, upload Mbps, and approximate latency from multi-sample HTTP transfers. Classes (slow → very fast) are consumer-oriented buckets, not SLA grades.

Why results differ from other sites

Different CDNs, payload sizes, parallel streams, and server locations produce different numbers. Ours intentionally stays light to protect battery, data caps, and page speed.

VPN and privacy

Traffic for this tool goes to Cloudflare speed endpoints from your browser. A VPN changes the path and often the Mbps you see. Combine with My IP and the VPN leak tool when debugging tunnels.

Limits

We do not claim maximum line rate, packet loss, or multi-homed capacity. Browser timers, TCP slow-start, and short samples introduce variance.

When upgrades or a VPN help

If your plan is consistently far below what you pay for, contact the ISP with multi-test evidence. If you need a different path for privacy or travel, a reputable VPN may help — but expect throughput trade-offs.

Speed test FAQ

No. It is a light single-edge HTTP estimate, not a multi-server lab test.
